UCL Student Wins Nordic Award
Bettina Dam Rüger, who is a student at the Department of Teacher Education in Jelling, was today awarded with her teaching diploma as well as 10.000 DKK.
Bettina Dam Rüger wrote her bachelor's thesis on the position of the neighboring Nordic languages in Danish classes. The thesis was entered into a competition arranged by Nordisk Sprogkampagne, a campaign issued by the Nordic Council of Ministers, and won first place.
Young people in the Nordic countries are having an increasingly hard time understanding each others languages, despite an increased activity across the borders. Therefore, the Nordic Council of Ministers are attempting to put a renewed focus on the languages, among other things by arranging a competition for those studying to become teachers in the Nordic countries.
Betina Dam Rügers thesis, "Neighboring languages as an integrated element in the development of late modern identity and entrepreneurship" discusses how to achieve an understanding of the neighboring languages in Danish classes.
Gudrun Tinnna Olafsdottir from Háskoli in Iceland won second place with "Do you like Danish?" a study of Icelandic students' attitude towards learning Danish in school.
