UCL Student Receives Award from the Minister of Education
Lonnie Warren, student at UCL's Department of Teacher Education in Funen, came in first place in a competition to develop the best international lesson plan for skoleniverden.dk.
The project is initiated by the Danish Agency for International Education, and aims to create more international perspectives in Danish classrooms.
Today, Lonnie Warren visited the Minister of Education, Morten Østergaard, to receive the award for her lesson plan "Knowing me, knowing you." Lonnie's project is centered on getting students to acquaint themselves with other countries' culture and social conditions by incorporating this perspective into different subjects.
The idea is to have students in different countries do research on each other, and then share this information to gain knowledge about how they are viewed by others.
The Minister of Education said the following about Lonnie's winning project:
"Lonnie Warren's project can be used in many different subjects, and to cooperate with primary and secondary school students abroad. This project, along with the other students' international lesson plans, can inspire teachers and students alike to incorporate an international dimension in their teaching.
That dimension can provide the experience that the Danish primary and secondary school system may be the best in the world, but that there are other ways to structure the teaching."
Along with the award, Lonnie received both flowers and a gift certificate for an iPad 2.
The lesson plan has been made public on skoleniverden.dk, where Danish teachers are free to use it.
